Father’s Day 2017

June seems to be flying by! It’s the end of the month and Father’s Day has come and gone. This year was a little different for us when it came to celebrating. I had planne d to just have a relaxing day at home, spending most of it outside. Father’s day did not quite like I had planned. (Does anything go as planned these days?)

We ended up going camping that weekend rather than spending time at home. Our original plans for the weekend fell through so we took that opportunity to get out of town and go camping. It was the HOTTEST weekend we have had this year! You can read more about our camping trip here.

That Sunday was Father’s Day. We woke up and enjoyed a breakfast around the campsite before packing up and heading back home. It had been a really hot weekend and we were ready to get home. We drove the two hours back home, arriving around lunch time. We enjoyed a quick lunch at home before jumping in the pool to relax (and cool off).

To make it special we grilled some steaks that night and watched a movie that the girls picked. It wasn’t the father’s day we had planned but it was fun for my husband to spend time with his family.

Princess Tea Party

About a year ago I saw an ad for a Princess Tea Party for little girls. I talked to my husband about taking the girls then got online to order tickets. By the time I got on, it was all sold out. A few months later they listed another Princess Tea Party, I again got on to order the tickets, the day it was released only to find they were completely sold out for both dates they were having the party. I was so frustrated at how fast these tickets were selling out.

In January of this year I received a notification that they would be selling tickets for another Princess Tea Party. I set my calendar and got on the morning that they released. As I got to the website, I saw that they had an error message that said that their website was down and all orders had to be phone orders. I spent the next hour repeatedly calling the company to get tickets.

FINALLY, Someone Answered!

I was able to get tickets for the Rapunzel table. I couldn’t wait to tell the girls that afternoon when they got home from school. They were both so excited! The next six months they asked if it was Princess Tea Party weekend until it was time to go to the tea party.

The Princess Tea Party day was June 17th, just after a week long princess ballet camp! Bailey chose to dress up as Rapunzel and Brooke dressed up as Belle. They were so precious in their little dresses with their hair done and their jewelry on.

What was it like?

They had the princess tea party at a local hotel in their ballroom. It included a brunch themed tea party with princesses at all the tables. We enjoyed the brunch and sweet tea before craft time with princess Rapunzel. Each princess had their own themed craft. Rapunzel’s was a lantern from her floating lanterns. Ariel created mermaids, Elsa made frozen jeweled crowns, Belle made magic mirrors. Princess Elena made bracelets, Moana made coconuts and I missed the craft for Cinderella and Jasmine.

After brunch snacks and making lanterns. The princesses danced and sang a few Disney songs for the party guests. Then all of the little girls were able to meet the princesses and take pictures and get autographs. Brooke was really into meeting the princesses. She was with the fifth princess posing for a picture before Bailey got to her first. I was moving back and forth trying to get their individual pictures. Not very fun for me. I finally grabbed Brooke and had her wait a few minutes until Bailey was caught up to her. I didn’t want to miss a picture with either one of them. It was such a special day for the girls and I loved being able to spend it with them.

Young Living Essential Oils: The Premium Starter Kit

New PSK

As promised in last week’s post, I am going to discuss the oils in the premium starter kit. Before I talk about each item in the kit, I wanted to talk about the entire kit.

There are different starter kits that you can purchase from Young Living. I chose to start my discussions on the premium starter kit because it gives a variety of products that Young Living has to offer. In this kit you will find:

11 Oils:

  • Lavender
  • Peppermint
  • Lemon
  • Copaiba
  • Frankincense
  • Thieves
  • Purification
  • R.C.
  • DiGize
  • Pan Away
  • Stress Away

*These could be switched out for another oil if the current oil is out of stock.

The kit also includes a diffuser. There are a few choices on diffusers that a customer can pick that suits their own personal needs. I personally have a dew drop diffuser that I LOVE! Having a kit with a diffuser is important in my opinion.

The Premium kit includes a few other items from Young Living as well. These items currently are:

  • Aroma Glide Roller Filament (A Roll on)
  • 10 Sample Packets of oils
  • Sample Oil bottles
  • 2 NingXia Red 2 oz Samples

When you order your kit, you will get membership resources which means a discount on all orders at wholesale price. Premium oils at wholesale price is such an amazing deal!

To sign up, go to Young Living, click become a member. Then add my number, 3019216, to the enroller and sponsor links. It’s that simple! If you choose to join my team, you will get the same benefits that I do which is belonging to a great leadership team that will provide you with amazing resources for how to use your essential oils.

Princess Ballet Summer Camp

Summer time has started and we are trying our best to stay busy this summer. We started the summer with a week long vacation traveling throughout our home state and filling the major requests of our two oldest children; beach trip, zoo day, and camping. Once back home the summer camps started for the girls. The first one was the Princess Ballet Camp. This is a camp just like the one they did over spring break.

Day one

They refreshed all of the positions taught previously. First, Second and fifth position. From there they played games and practiced new ballet positions. After about an hour of learning techniques, they stopped to make a princess craft for the final thirty minutes of the camp. This craft was a princess crown.

While the girls were busy at camp, Mason and I went to a nearby park to spend some mommy-son time and get that boy moving. He loved our time at the park. Mason climbed on the playground and chased birds, stopping every time a big truck drove by. He loves his trucks! We returned to pick up his sisters just before their class let out.

Day two

The camp started again with practicing positions and learning new dance moves. After dancing for an hour they made a craft of a beaded bracelet. They loved their little bracelets. When they came home this day they could not wait to show us what they had learned. While they were at camp, Mason and I ran errands and then returned just in time to pick them up.

Day three

This day the girls worked on their new techniques most of the time during the instruction time. Then they made a special princess butterfly mask as their craft. They were so excited when they left camp because moms and dads can come watch on the final day.

Day four (the final day)

On this day they were able to go to dance camp in princess costumes. They were so excited about being able to dress up. Bailey chose to dress up as Aurora from Sleeping Beauty. Brooke dressed up as Snow White. We were able to come and watch the final 10 minutes of the camp. Daddy even made a special trip to the studio to watch. It was so precious watching them dance their little routine.

Review: Natural Insect Repellent

Just in time for Summer and all of those nasty bugs, I have received a product for bug spray to review. Now I must say that I am very cautious in what products I put on my kids. I watch the ingredients in bug sprays and sunscreen and prefer things that are not sprays. When this product came up for a review, I made sure if fit all of my all natural criteria before putting it on my kids to try.

*Disclaimer: I was not paid by this company to write this review. I was asked to write the review and chose to share the information with all of you.*

What is this product that I am writing about?

Buzz Away Extreme Natural Insect Repellent. This product comes with towelettes and  bug spray.

The towelette ingredients in this bug spray include Castor Oil, Geranium Oil, Soybean Oil, Cedarwood Oil, Citronella Oil, Peppermint Oil, Lemongrass Oil, Purified Water, Coconut Oil, Glycerin, Lecithin, Sodium Bicarbonate, Citric Acid, Tocopherol (Vitamin E), Wintergreen Oil.

The bug spray which is deet free has the following ingredients. Castor Oil, Geranium Oil, Soybean Oil, Cedarwood Oil, Citronella Oil, Peppermint Oil, Lemongrass Oil, Purified Water, Coconut Oil, Glycerin, Lecithin, Sodium Bicarbonate, Citric Acid, Tocopherol (Vitamin E), Wintergreen Oil.

The recommended time of use for both the towelettes and spray is 3.5 hours before reapplication (if putting on to defend against ticks 2 hours). Caution tells you to avoid eye contact and swallowing. Just as any product, please keep away from your babies and small children who still put things in their mouths. This product is intended to wipe onto your skin. The aroma of the oils are designed to keep bugs from coming into contact with you.

I chose to put this product to the test in multiple situations. We headed to Houston not long after receiving this product and used it while we went to the zoo. Houston is a place that has a ton of mosquitoes and we needed something strong enough to fight them off. Another test was when we took our first camping trip of the season. Being out in the woods you encounter several bugs including mosquitoes and ticks. A great insect repellent is important in both of these situations.

So how did this product hold up?

Well at the zoo, it was great to defend against those annoying mosquitoes. They are everywhere and we definitely needed a bug repellent that could protect the kids against the mosquitoes.

On our camping trip, the repellent also worked great for the kids to protect them from bug bites. It lasted about four hours, just as they advertised. We were able to reapply as needed while camping.

I am happy to say this product worked great with our kids. I would recommend trying it on yourself before putting it on your kids. Buzz Away Extreme Towelettes can be ordered here.

Warning: Frustrated Mom Ahead…Proceed with Caution!

Warning: Vent Session from a frustrated mom!

If you have been reading previous posts you have seen that we have a princess tea party coming up. It was scheduled for tomorrow at 1 pm at a local hotel ballroom. My girls have been so excited about this tea party since they found out in January that we were going. I called today to see where the actual location was, because I have not seen the event information listed on Facebook. The woman that answered the phone was so rude to me. Her response was “We sent out an email a month ago that said we moved the date. You should check your email.”

I check my email 5 to 6 times a day and have not received an email. So now this new date is next weekend. Which wouldn’t be a big deal except we had already booked a camping trip for next weekend. Now that this has changed, I have spent the last hour trying to reschedule the camping trip because I can’t reschedule the tea party.

I think it’s safe to say that I will not use this party events place again because of their lack of professionalism and disrespectful nature to customers.

I’m sorry for this rant! I just needed to vent for a second after dealing with such horrible people.

On another topic, I am going to be re-launching my Young Living Essential Oils business and will be doing some great classes on oils soon. If you know someone who is interested in Essential Oils please share this post or my facebook page Young Living Essential Oils For You.

Camping at Dinosaur Valley

Our Final Destination…Dinosaur Valley

To finish our week long start of the summer vacation, we left our beach condo and headed to Dinosaur Valley for a camping trip. The girls were so excited to finally go camping at an actual campground. They have only been asking for a year to go camping but little brother was not old enough for this type of adventure. I remember going to Dinosaur Valley multiple summers when I was a kid. We loved visiting there although we never actually camped at the park. We always stayed in condos a little ways away.

We arrived at Dinosaur Valley around 2:30 pm. My in-laws were already there camping from the night before. We were there early enough that we could explore that afternoon. So shortly after our arrival we took a family hike around the park. We had planned on searching for dinosaur tracks but all of the rain throughout the area had caused high water in the river. We saw the area the tracks were in but did not have a chance to enter the river this time. We will have to go back sometime to see it again. Mason only cared for the part that he walked our dog, holding her leash along the trails.

That night we had the traditional campfire and grilled our dinner, followed by roasting marshmallows for smores. Yum! This is a family favorite for all of us, even Mason.

This was it, the girls were finally getting to sleep in a tent outside.

Joel and the two girls slept in a tent outside the camper where my in-laws, Mason, and myself slept. (There was no way I was fighting a baby in a tent). The girls absolutely loved camping in the tent outside. They thought it was so cool. Joel is not a big fan but he’s such a good sport for them. Anything to make them happy.

The next morning we got up and started to shut down the camp. We had a five hour drive ahead of us and didn’t want to head out late in the day. While we were shutting things down, my mother-in-law took my kids around the park again for another hike in hopes of wearing them out before going on that drive.  We have borrowed my in-laws camper for the summer so check back for some more camping adventures.

Beach Trip

It’s Vacation Time!

We kicked off our vacation with a trip to the zoo. From there we headed south an hour to Galveston for a 3 day beach vacation. This vacation was not all about the beach, it also included a friend’s wedding.

Beach Day 1

We arrived at our condo Friday afternoon around 2 so that we could get checked in and settled before I headed to the store to gather things for this weekend. For this trip we chose to rent a condo rather than a hotel because we needed the extra space for the kids to roam. A beach house was another thought however this was prime rental season and it was  expensive to rent a beach house. This condo was a one bedroom, one bath with a kitchenette, living room, and a bunk bed space. The condo was located across the street from the beach which made morning trips to the beach fun.

Friday night my mom, sister, and niece came to the condo to watch my kids while Joel and I headed down the road to the wedding rehearsal and rehearsal dinner. It was nice to spend some time with old friends and not have the little ones tagging along for the ride. We didn’t make it a long night that night because we knew that we were going to be heading to the beach in the morning before getting ready for the wedding that afternoon.

Beach Day 2

Saturday morning we woke up and headed to the beach around 10:30. We spent until lunch time at the beach. Then we headed back tot he condo to swim for a little while before having lunch.  After lunch all three kids took a nap and Joel and I started getting ready for the wedding. He left a little early for the wedding while I stayed until later to ride over to the church. My other sister came down that afternoon and watched the kids for us while we were at the wedding.

Beach Day 3

Sunday was spent stuck in the condo for most of the day. It rained until about 3:30. We went down to the pool after it stopped raining. We would have gone to the beach but the last storm brought in bacteria to the beaches and we didn’t want to take that chance with the kids.  Then we spent about 45 minutes in the pool before it started to darken again like another storm was coming in.

As we got out of the pool and started drying off,  Mason decided he would jump back into the pool. He had his towel wrapped around him and no float on. My mommy instinct made me turn back around to see him jumping in. I screamed his name then ran to the pool jumping in to pull him back up. As I pulled him up he started laughing (not coughing as we expected). I looked at him and said did you just jump in the pool and with a lot of excitement he screamed “Yeah!” We got out of there as fast as we could.

Of course Joel nor I slept that night watching him very closely in fear of dry drowning (aka secondary drowning). We are very thankful to say that he is fine and we suspect that he held his breathe when he jumped in. It is safe to say that we may not be getting in the pool for a little while until our nerves calm a bit after that scare.

On to the next part…

Monday morning we left Galveston and headed north to go camping before ending our week long trip.

Rental Review

We rented our condo from Turnkey Vacation Rentals. I had never heard of them until I started researching for a condo to stay in while we were in Galveston. I wanted to rent from a property managing company because it was easier than tracking down a person who rents their condos. I saw Air B&B, VRBO, and Home Away but did not care for their extra hidden fees for using them.

Turnkey Vacation Rentals was very easy to use. I was able to book online and pay a deposit which was added to my bill for the three days we were staying there. They require that you finish paying your entire balance one month before the arrival date. At first I didn’t like this idea but when it came to the month that we arrived, I was glad to have this already paid in full. One less thing to have to pay for when you are on vacation.

The Turnkey properties all have digital tablets to help you with your stay. Ours had restaurants and activities for the city that we were in. I would recommend using Turnkey Vacation Rentals on your next trip.
