Baby # 3 Update: 7 Months

Today’s Date: October 31, 2015

Due Date: January 9, 2016

How far along: 30 weeks
Total weight gain: Maintaining the same amount of weight. He is still growing but I’m not gaining any more weight. So hopefully that means I’m just losing any extra that I had.
Maternity clothes: Yes. I’m excited to be pulling out my cool weather clothes.
Stretch marks: None
Sleep: Not enough. Desperately wishing I got more.
Best moment of this week: We had a 4D ultrasound with Baby M. I loved seeing his chubby cheeks. I can’t wait to see them in a few months when he is with us.

Miss anything: Being able to sleep on my stomach. I’m starting to not enjoy sleeping on my side as well. Baby M hates when I sleep on my sides now and often times kicks constantly until I move.
Movement: He kicks a lot. I love feeling his little kicks. The girls and Joel do too.
Food cravings: My sweet tooth has kicked up. Of course just in time for the holidays.
Anything making you queasy or sick: No, but I cannot stand the smell of raw meat.
Have you started to show yet: Yes
Gender: Male
Labor signs: None
Belly button in or out: In
Wedding rings on or off: On most of the time
Happy or moody most of the time: Happy
Looking forward to: Having a quiet holiday season at home. Only 10 weeks left until we meet our baby boy.

I failed the one hour glucose test this past week. I will have another test this next week that is 3 hours long. I’m crossing my fingers and saying some prayers that Gestational Diabetes and insulin injections are not in my near future. See an update on this in our 8 month update.

DIY Nursing Cover

DIY Nursing Cover

I had a nursing cover with the girls but lost it when we moved out here. I did not want to register for another one so I decided to make my own. I found a tutorial on Pinterest. Here is the tutorial that I used Tada Creations Nursing Cover Tutorial.

I modified her directions just a little to make it work better for me. I used three different materials. The major material was the soft chevron gray and white material (I used for his crib teething rail). This material I cut a 34.5″ W x 19.5″ H piece. I then used a material left over from when I made the shopping cart covers with for the girls. This material was teal, black, gray, and white. I cut a 34.5″ W x 6.5″ H piece of this material. The third material I used a small binding ribbon in black.

I stitched the first two materials together using a cross stitch on my sewing machine. After stitching the two pieces together, I stitched a 1/2 inch seam around the entire cover.

The next step was to take the black ribbon and cover the seam between the two fabrics.

I then made a 1 1/2″ seam at the top of the cover. I stitched that seam together so that I could thread a piece of baby elastic into the top piece. This gives a little bunch to the top and allows for more coverage. I used a 30″ piece of elastic.

The next step was to add a tailored look to the cover. I wanted to allow for a little more coverage but with a decorative feel so I stitched every 6 inches a 12 inch seam to taper the cover.

My final step was to make the strap for the neck piece. I used the second material cut into a 15″ L by 3″ W.  Then I folded my strap in half and stitched the edges together. I then took a piece of baby elastic and thread it through the strap. I used about 12” L of the material. You can use more or less depending on how much you feel you need. I liked it really bunchy together. Then I stitched the two ends of this strap to the cover about 4″ from each end.

Here is the final product.

Family Friendly Meal: Chicken Tortilla Soup

Chicken Tortilla Soup

Today’s post is for my little sister. I told her about my amazing Chicken Tortilla Soup recipe and knew it would be one worth sharing.

I absolutely love this recipe for Chicken Tortilla Soup because it can be cooked over stove top or in the crockpot, which ever is easier for you.

Chicken Tortilla Soup

Ingredients:

4 1/2 cups of low sodium chicken broth
1 can diced tomatoes
3/4 cup chopped onion
4 cloves of garlic, chopped
2 1/2 tsp chili powder
1 1/2 tsp ground cumin
3/4 tsp paprika
1 1/2 pounds chicken breast **
1 can black beans, rinsed and drained
1 1/2 cups frozen corn
1/4 cup fresh cilantro (topping)
Shredded Cheese
Corn Tortilla Chips

**If you are cooking it on the stove top, cook the chicken ahead of time. If it is in the crockpot to cook all day, it can be raw.

Stove Top Directions:

Pour chicken broth, diced tomatoes, onion, garlic, chili powder, cumin, paprika, and chicken in a large pot. Bring to a boil. Add black beans and corn. Let it simmer for 30 minutes so that the flavor can be absorbed by the chicken.

When ready to serve top with fresh cilantro, shredded cheese, and tortilla chips.

Crockpot Directions:

Put chicken broth, diced tomatoes, onion, garlic, chili powder, cumin, paprika, raw chicken, corn, and black beans into the crockpot. Cook on low for 6 – 8 hours. Soup is ready when chicken is done.

When ready to serve top with fresh cilantro, shredded cheese, and tortilla chips.

This is a family favorite in our house. Hope you enjoy!

Baby # 3 Update: 6 Months

Today’s Date: September 26, 2015
Due Date: January 9, 2016
How far along: 25 weeks
Total weight gain: About 10 pounds but I think it’s actually less than that.
Maternity clothes: Yes, I am wearing maternity pants or shorts and tops now.
Stretch marks: None, thankfully
Sleep: I’m exhausted most of the time. I am sleeping a little better this month but am getting up every 3 hours now to use the bathroom.
Best moment of this week: We let the girls feel him kick. Watching their faces as they felt their brother kicking their hand was priceless.
Miss anything: Feeling rested.
Movement: Baby boy moves throughout the day. He doesn’t seem to be a morning person because I don’t feel him move until after 10 am. He usually moves the most in the evenings after dinner. Joel has felt him quite a few times now. It makes him laugh to feel his son kicking his hand so hard.
Food cravings: Sweets
Anything making you queasy or sick: Smells have made me nauseous
Have you started to show yet: Yes I am showing
Gender: Male
Labor signs: None
Belly button in or out: In
Wedding rings on or off: On most of the time but have had a few days that I had to take them off.
Happy or moody most of the time: Moody…I did say I was exhausted.
Looking forward to: My baby shower in a few weeks and my third ultrasound coming up around 28 weeks.

I can’t believe that I’m already 6 months along. Our sweet baby boy will be here in about three months…we are very excited for him to be here.

23 weeks: Baby is the size of a papaya.
