Doc Band Helmet Decorating

The Doc Band Helmets come white. There are a few options to decorating the helmet.

The first option is to have a company paint it for you. This option is a more expensive choice. Plus it usually requires you to send the Doc Band to the place for a week or two. That is a week or two that your child is not in the band.

The second option is finding a company that makes decals for bands. When I decorated Bailey’s first band and Brooke’s band I used blingyourband.com. They have so many cute decals for your child’s band. You simply place the decals where you want on the band then use Modge Podge to seal them.

On Bailey’s second band I decided to decorate it with vinyl I cut using my Cricut cutting machine. I purchased the princess cartridge to cut out the shapes. Just like the decals I purchased I placed the vinyl where I wanted it then used the Modge Podge to seal it.

Another option people have chosen for decorating the bands is to use stickers. If you can find stickers you like then you can follow the same directions as above in placement and sealing.

Good luck with decorating your child’s helmet.

8 Months Old!!!

The girls are 8 months old today! Time has flown by. They are both are sitting up really well. They both sat up yesterday for about 45 minutes without falling over. They are trying to crawl. When they are on their tummies they tuck their legs underneath their body and try to move.

Bailey
Height – 26 1/2 inches
Weight – 19 lbs
Sleep – Bed time at 8 – 8:30 pm with two naps
Eat – baby food three times a day. We have introduced meats and macaroni and cheese. She loves every thing they eat. We will be starting finger foods this month. The still take a bottle with meals and then one before bed.
Activity – They are on the move even though they are not crawling just yet. They roll and scoot across the entire room. They would prefer to be moving or sitting up. Laying down does not make them happy any more. They want to be free to move around. They are out growing things so fast.

Clothes – Both girls are in 9 month clothes already. We transitioned them to the 9 months size this month. The clothes are a little big but it is better than the 6 months size that was way too tight. Plus with it being Spring and warmer weather it allows a different type of clothing for them to wear.

Baby Wise Schedule:
7:00 am Wake up and feeding
9:00 am Nap time
11:00 Lunch
2:00 Nap time
6:00 Dinner
8:00 Bedtime

We are looking to move to the next size car seat in May or June because they are so big. I can still carry them in their baby carriers but it is getting difficult.

Both girls are now in the Doc Band. Bailey received her second band last Friday. She has done wonderful in her therapy. She has full neck movement and can hold her head up while sitting without it falling to the side, like it did before. We are now working on maintenance on her neck and teaching her how to keep her balance. While she is sitting we push her back and forth to make her support herself with her hands. Although this is a strength that most children learn on their own, Bailey will have trouble because of her Torticollis. We recently found out that the Torticollis in her neck has affected her right shoulder and arm. Until two weeks ago, Bailey would not use her right arm. We have taught her that she can use her right arm and hand to grab things and support herself. She is using it more and more each day. The therapist has told me that she is an extremely hard worker and that any task we give her she works through no matter how difficult. I have to believe that this is why she is making progress the way she is. We will have to continue therapy past her first birthday and possibly much longer to make sure that her neck continues to stay strong. We are hoping that the Doc Band will be gone before her first birthday.

Brooke has adjusted really well to her Doc Band. In the month that she has worn it, her head shaped has altered 10 mm, which is huge movement. The back of her head is no longer flat. We are wanting to see more growth in the front and on top. We do not think she will need a second Doc Band and anticipate for hers to be finished in July.

We have transferred to the satellite office in Ft. Worth which will cut two hours off round trip. So instead of 11 hours of driving, it should be 9 hours. This will be a huge relief for all of us.
